When we were first dreaming up this recipe we were trying to come up with a healthy fun dessert kids would love. We wanted it to be sweet….but we still wanted it to be healthy. In the past both Sara and myself had eaten fruit skewers in various forms…so we thought hey….why not freeze them!
These delicious fruit skewers are cheap, easy to make, tasty, and look great. They are sure to be a hit at your next picnic or just great to keep around the house for the little ones. We hope you enjoy!
We started out by cutting our fruit. We cubed the watermelon, pineapple, and honeydew. Keeping them a similar size. We cut the kiwi into half moons. And we left the grapes whole. Then we starting putting the pieces of fruit on the skewer.We put two sets of fruit on each skewer. The we put the final product in the freezer. After one hour they were ready to eat!
Ingredients
12 pieces watermelon, cubed
12 pieces honeydew melon, cubed
12 pieces red grapes
12 pieces kiwis, sliced and then halved
12 pieces pineapple, cubed
6 skewers
Instructions
- Cut all the fruit and set aside
- Take a skewer and one piece at a time put on a piece of watermelon, honeydew, kiwi, pineapple and grape. Repeat. Each skewer will hold 2 sets of fruit.
- Place finished skewers on a baking sheet. Cover with plastic wrap and place in the freezer.
Notes
Tips - Make sure to leave enough room at the end of each skewer so that kids can easily hold i tin their hands. Also, it is a good idea to snip the sharp end off before putting it in the freezer. That was the child will not accidentally poke themselves.
