Local, Local, Local….My first CSA bounty

CSA Produce MMMM

The day has finally arrived. My very first CSA delivery! I was so excited to finally get my “loot!” Back in January, I joined my local CSA aka Community Supported Agriculture. There are several CSAs in  my area, but I chose this one because it seemed to have the most variety. They also offered a small and large share as well as a dairy option. So, I basically paid up front for weekly fresh produce throughout the summer. I’m so looking forward to it. It helps keep me stocked with fresh, local fruits and veg, but it also helps the farmers plan and fund their summer crops. It’s a win win!

My CSA comes from a farm called Nu Beginnings (http://www.nubeginningfarm.com/) This week I got a couple of kinds of lettuce, spring onions, fresh oregano, kale, asparagus, local strawberries, and eggs. I was a little disappointed because no one can eat that much lettuce, but all in all, everything was fresh and looked great. I’m really excited about the asparagus and the eggs. They look awesome.  I’ve already eaten the strawberries. They were delicious. There is nothing like a farm fresh strawberry. They are so much tastier and rustic looking than a grocery store berry.

Upon picking up my food, I discovered that Nu Beginnings has a store and a little restaurant. Which I am also super excited about. My daughter and I had lunch there yesterday when we picked up our bag.  I  had a yummy salad, and she had a PB and J made with fresh local jam. Her sandwich was served with fresh local strawberries. Both were delicious. They also offer other organic and local stuff, like coffee, tea, herbs, etc. I plan to spend a little more time there next time I pick up my CSA goods.

Did you join a CSA this year?
