Homemade Grain Free Dog Biscuits

Grain Free Dog Treats awesome! sized

Bentley Can't Wait!

Bentley Can’t Wait!

I confess, my dogs are spoiled. Very spoiled. Jessica’s is too. We both have rescue pups that deserve to be spoiled, so it’s ok. I have a 12 year old 10 pound shih tzu named Bailey who just hangs out and sleeps all day, but always finds time to bark at the evil mail man. He protects the house. I also have a crazy 1 year old boxer lab mix named Belle (she’s about 80 pounds.) Jessica has Bentley, a food crazy almost 1 1/2 year old beagle mix. Belle and Bentley are best friends and can play for (and I’m not kidding) 12 hours a day. They are messy, dirty, and stinky. But we love them that way!

My Clean Kitchen Dogs

Belle and Bentley Waiting for a Grain Free Treat.

I created this recipe a couple of moths ago and it has been a big hit around my house. So, this year I am giving them as gifts to my fellow dog loving friends and neighbors. I also make my own dog food but that’s another blog for another day!

I looked for a store bought grain free treat that wasn’t awful for a while and just couldn’t find anything I felt good about. Bailey has a grain allergy.  So, I was excited to discover garbanzo bean flour. It’s inexpensive and has a nutty flavor. We’ve used it to test things like biscuits, pie crusts, etc.

Homemade Grain Free Dog Biscuits

Ingredients

1 medium banana

3 tablespoon natural crunchy peanut butter

1 large egg

2 cups garbanzo bean flour

3 tablespoon honey

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 300 degrees F.
  2. Combine liquid ingredients in a mixing bowl. Mix until combined
  3. Add flour gradually until combined. The dough will be very sticky.
  4. Cover your work surface with the garbanzo bean flour then roll out the dough using rolling pin. It should be about ¼ inch thick. You will use a lot of garbanzo bean flour to coat the rolling pin and table. The dough is VERY sticky.
  5. Using a cookie cutter cut desired shape. We used a dog biscuit shape but I have used a small heart in the past.
  6. Place biscuits on a foil lined cookie sheet. They can be placed very close together since they don't rise but not touching.
  7. Cook 30-40 minutes until dark golden brown.
  8. Let cool on a cooling rack to room temperature.
  9. Will last up to 2 weeks in an airtight container.
