So, today I’m Bermuda bound! Needless to say, I’m a little excited. It’s been a LONG time since I’ve been on a real vacation. We are going on a cruise. Cruises are notorious for over indulgence of food. I have worked so hard in the past few months to “clean” up my diet and I’m going to try to stay committed to keeping that up. Of course I’ll allow myself a few cheat items. Our “My Clean Kitchen” philosophy is 80-20, so I’ll let myself indulge, but only 20% of the time. So I thought I would share with you the preparation I’ve done in hopes of keeping myself on track while I’m sailing the high seas.

Research!
I’ve done tons of research. By research I mean, I’ve scoured the cruise lines website for restaurant descriptions and food information. I’ve also found every single cruise critic website I can find and looked for reviews on food, specifically healthy food. You’d be surprised how much information is out there! I probably know more about the restaurants on the ship than my concierge will. I plan to do a full food tour so I know what is available when I board.
I found this article particularly helpful.
Eat This Not That: Tips for Eating Healthy on a Cruise Ship
Here is a link to a message board with some tips from previous cruise travelers who are eating clean – Cruise Critic Message Board Discussion on Clean Eating.
Pack Appropriately
I have packed ALL of my work out clothes. This is in preparation of using the health club facilities. Everyday. I have prepared my family of my plans to be sure they understand their responsibility when it comes to entertaining the 4 year old. (Which usually falls to me.)
Also, I’m bringing along some healthy snacks to keep in the cabin including, almonds, apple chips (recipe coming soon) and a few apples from our recent apple picking adventure. I”ll carry these on with me so they don’t search my checked bags and take them.
Plan Ahead
Once of my biggest fears is that I won’t has access to enough water while on board. I’ve pre-purchased an unlimited bottled water package. Yes, yes, seems like a waste, but water is that important. I also plan to limit my alcohol consumption, so I purchased the wine and beer only beverage package. That way I won’t be temped to gulp down those super sugary fruity cocktails everyone loves when cruising. And, Wine is good for you right?
Will Power
I”m gearing up to practice strong will power. We’ll see how it goes. Wish me luck!
I’ll be back in a week. See you on the flip side!
