I made my favorite today, Chai Tea Latte. I’m a confessed addict of the Chai Tea Latte. My family can attest to it. In preschool last year, my 4 year old’s classroom did a Mother’s Day activity where the teachers asked the kids questions about their Moms. Aside from being 5 years old, 50 pounds (bless her) and my favorite tv show being commercials, my favorite drink was CHAI. Yes , my daughter knows me well. I was a little concerned she may respond with wine, as she did the previous year. It was awesome. (Can you hear the sarcasm?)

So, I use the slow cooker for this which makes it so simple. And, the bonus is that your house smells great the entire day. I will say, I had to make a special trip across the mountain to get the cardamom pods, they only sell the seeds in most stores. However, Whole Foods has them in their bulk, self-serve spice area.

I made my own sweetened condensed milk using Almond Milk for a dairy free Paleo Friendly treat. Here is the recipe.

  • Chai Tea Spices

  • Water in Slow Cooker

  • Chai Spices in the Slow Cooker

You're house is about to smell so good!
  • Black Tea Bags = caffeine and delicious-ness

Use a red tea or decaf black tea for a decaffeinated version.
  • Strain the Tea

  • Add the sweetened condensed milk

  • Enjoy a delicious cup of tea.

For added sweetness add some coconut palm sugar or a splash of honey.

Chai Tea Latte

Ingredients

20 cardamom pods, cracked and seeded (discard the seeds)

1 vanilla bean

1/8 teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg

20 whole cloves

4 whole peppercorns

3 cinnamon sticks

15 slices of fresh ginger

9 black tea bags

4 quarts of water

12 oz -16 oz "paleo friendly" sweetened condensed milk Make Your Own - Click here for the Recipe

Instructions

  1. Add the water to slow cooker.
  2. Add cardamom pods, nutmeg, ginger, cloves, peppercorns, and cinnamon sticks.
  3. Cut the vanilla bean down the center and run the knife down the slit to remove the seeds. Add the seeds to the water as well as the pod.
  4. Turn slow cooker on high for 8 hours.
  5. Enjoy the delicious way your house smells.
  6. Add the 9 tea bags directly to the slow cooker. Steep about 5-6 minutes.
  7. Using a sieve or strainer (the holes should be very small), strain the mixture into a clean vessel.
  8. Allow to cool slightly.
  9. Add the condensed milk. Stir to combine.
  10. Serve hot.
  11. Storage: Store in an airtight container for about a week.
