Maple Bacon Cheddar Turkey Burgers

Breakfast: Whole Wheat Banana Pancakes

Lunch: Hummus with Pita, Carrot, Celery, and Green Pepper Sticks

Snack: Trail Mix

Dinner: Maple Bacon Cheddar Turkey Burgers, Sweet Potato Fries

 

 

Who said turkey burgers had to be dry! Honestly, I used to be one of those people, but this recipe had made me a convert. they are so moist and delicious, I have already made them twice this week! The maple in the burger patty gives it a little something extra that will have people coming back for more. And the mustard maple syrup sauce it unbelievable! This recipe is sure to be a hit with even the most devout burger lover in your family.

Local Ingredient: Lettuce (purchased from Relay Foods) and Sage (from my home herb plant). 

Maple Bacon Cheddar Turkey Burger

Yield: 4 burgers

Ingredients

For Burgers

1/4 cup turkey bacon, crumbled (about 5 strips)

1 1/4 lbs ground turkey

1 Apple, diced fine

1/4 cup Onions, minced (1/2 Onion)

2 tbsp maple syrup

1/2 tsp Fresh Sage, chopped

1/2 tsp Dijon Mustard

1 egg

salt, to taste

pepper to taste

4 whole wheat buns

4 slices cheddar cheese or colby jack.

Lettuce (optional)

Tomato Slices (optional)

For Sauce

2 tbsp Dijon mustard

2 tbsp maple syrup

Instructions

  1. Cook the turkey bacon according to the instructions on the package.
  2. Once turkey bacon is cooked, crumble (or chop) and set aside.
  3. In a large bowl combine the ground turkey, bacon, apple, onion, 2 tbsp maple syrup, sage, 1/2 tsp Dijon mustard, egg, sat, and pepper. Mix with your hands until ingredients are well incorporated.
  4. Form the mixture into 4 burger patties.
  5. Heat a skillet or grill pan over medium high heat. Cook the turkey burger on the skillet until they reach an internal temperature of 160 degrees, flipping half way through.
  6. While the burgers are cooking whisk together the remaining Dijon mustard and maple syrup for the sauce.
  7. Once the burgers are done cooking place them on the whole wheat buns. Top with the sliced cheddar and maple Dijon mustard sauce.
  8. Serve warm.
