My First “Clean” Vacation

November 1, 2013 by Sara Leave a Comment

So, today I’m Bermuda bound! Needless to say, I’m a little excited. It’s been a LONG time since I’ve been on a real vacation. We are going on a cruise. Cruises are notorious for over indulgence of food. I have worked so hard in the past few months to “clean” up my diet and I’m going to try to stay committed to keeping that up. Of course I’ll allow myself a few cheat items. Our “My Clean Kitchen” philosophy is 80-20, so I’ll let myself indulge, but only 20% of the time. So I thought I would share with you the preparation I’ve done in hopes of keeping myself on track while I’m sailing the high seas.

Honey Ginger Carrots

October 15, 2013 by Sara Leave a Comment

I was first introduced to the ginger, honey and carrot combo in college. When my folks would come up for football games they would stay outside town at this little bed and breakfast. They also served dinner on Friday nights. One Friday night, they served a variation on these carrots. It became a family favorite. They sold us this Junior League cookbook, where the owner had gotten the recipe. I have no idea where that cookbook ended up through the years but I have continued to cook these carrots. The recipes have changed and morphed over the years into what it is today. And, its delicious

October 15, 2013 by Sara 2 Comments

When we set out to create the perfect sweet potato fries recipe, we want to go more savory then sweet. We cut the sweet potatoes thick, tossed them in coconut oil, and sprinkled them with fresh rosemary. WOW are they good. They have a great depth of flavor that you just cant get from a white potato. Now that I have tried these fries I will never go back to the traditional white potato kind!
